PWR Final: Saracens 52-14 Trailfinders - Sarries storm to fourth league title as Marlie Packer signs off

Despite an encouraging start from Trailfinders, Saracens' experience soon told as the North London side took complete control. The visitors were kept scoreless until the 50th minute when Maya Montiel crossed for their opening try, before Abi Burton added a second late on. By then, however, Saracens had already wrapped up the contest in emphatic fashion.

Trailfinders flew out of the blocks, applying early pressure to the Saracens defence. England international Meg Jones produced a superb break from inside her own 22 to spark the opening attacks, but the Saracens defence stood firm.

After soaking up the early pressure, the hosts struck first. Canadian international Julia Omokhuale powered over to open the scoring before Zoe Harrison added the conversion.

Trailfinders searched for an immediate response, but Saracens continued to dominate the key moments. A turnover from Marlie Packer, followed by a pinpoint 50:22 from Harrison, handed the hosts prime attacking territory. Fittingly, Packer crashed over for Saracens' second try in what proved to be her final appearance in red and black.

Saracens continued to turn the screw. Slick interplay between Sydney Gregson and Liv Apps put the hosts back on the front foot before Packer grabbed her second try of the afternoon. Harrison's conversion stretched the lead to 19 points.

With just over half an hour played, Saracens secured the bonus point as Gregson raced over in the corner. Moments later, Apps thought she had added a fifth, only for the TMO to rule the try out after spotting a knock-on in the build-up.

The hosts were reduced to 14 players just before half-time when Gabrielle Senft was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on inside the red zone.

Saracens resumed exactly where they had left off. Within minutes of the restart, Jess Breach burst through the middle to score the home side's fifth try before Harrison maintained her flawless afternoon from the tee.

The champions were relentless. Just five minutes later, Alysha Corrigan finished another flowing move to extend the lead even further.

Trailfinders finally found a route back into the contest when prop Maya Montiel powered over for their first points of the afternoon. Rosie Inman, who had orchestrated the move, added the conversion before making way for Niamh Gallagher.

Any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Sophie de Goede produced a brilliant break before Harrison supported the play to score her first Premiership try of the season, converting her own score to make it 45-7.

Despite producing a standout performance, Packer's afternoon ended with a yellow card after kicking the ball away following a Trailfinders penalty. With Saracens down to 14 for the second time, Trailfinders capitalised as Abi Burton burrowed over from close range, with Gallagher adding the conversion.

Saracens had the final word. After absorbing another spell of Trailfinders possession, they turned defence into attack in trademark fashion, with Breach racing away for her second try of the afternoon to seal an emphatic victory.

As the clock ticked into the red, Saracens celebrated a deserved fourth Premiership Women's Rugby title, while Trailfinders could still reflect on a remarkable campaign that ended with a first-ever appearance in the final.

Marlie Packer signed off her nine-year Saracens career in perfect fashion, lifting another Premiership Women's Rugby title. The flanker delivered a trademark all-action display, making crucial tackles, dominant carries and winning turnovers while scoring two first-half tries in the space of eight minutes. In typical Packer fashion, she also picked up a yellow card late on after cynically kicking the ball away.

Twice reduced to 14 players, Saracens never lost control of the contest. Gabrielle Senft's first-half yellow card for a deliberate knock-on did little to halt the hosts' momentum, while Packer's late sin-bin offered Trailfinders their second try. Even a player down, Saracens remained clinical in both attack and defence.

Big occasions bring the best out of Jess Breach, and the England winger once again demonstrated why she remains one of the league's most dangerous finishers. Her electric pace and clinical finishing produced two second-half tries, helping Saracens pull away from the spirited Trailfinders challenge.

Although the scoreboard was one-sided, Trailfinders can take plenty of positives from their maiden Premiership Women's Rugby final. After being held scoreless in the opening half, they showed resilience after the break through tries from Maya Montiel and Abi Burton. Their first finals appearance may have ended in defeat, but it marks another significant step in the club's rapid rise.
