“30,000 Tickets Sold” – Record Crowd Set for Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors 1872 Cup Match

After a phenomenal round of rugby attendance in the Gallagher Premiership, and the RFU Championship also racking up two record attendance figures last weekend, the United Rugby Championship is set to break new ground with a derby match battle North of the border.

This Saturday’s match between Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors, has already had 30,000 tickets sold for the clash at Murrayfield. The home of Scottish rugby will host this titanic battle between the nation’s two URC sides, with the excitement growing ahead of this Saturday. Murrayfield Stadium can comfortably hold more than 67,000 fans, with plenty of tickets still remaining for this weekend’s derby.

However, this match-up is already on track to make history, and will be the best attended league meeting between Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors. The two sides compete for the fabled 1872 Cup, with the current record for the fixture standing at 27,437 (set in 2019).

Reacting to the record crowd, Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth said:

“As the excitement for Saturday’s derby decider continues to build, we’re delighted to confirm a record attendance for an 1872 Cup fixture, with ticket sales racing over the 30,000 mark this afternoon, still four days out from the match.

“This is an incredible achievement and testament to both the huge amount of work that has gone on behind the scenes to promote the fixture, as well as the support of our fans, whose passion and hunger to back the team has been nothing short of incredible all season long.

Struth continued: “We’re proud to represent Scotland’s capital city and it will be a moment to savour, for all connected to the club, to see a record-crowd backing Edinburgh Rugby in the 1872 Cup decider this Saturday.”
