Danny Cipriani and eight uncapped players named in England training squad

  • Danny Cipriani has been selected in a three-day England training camp that also includes eight uncapped players
  • Head coach Eddie Jones picked the Sale Sharks fly-half as part of a 26-man squad for the camp in Brighton
  • Northampton’s Teimana Harrison, Sale’s Mike Haley and Bath’s Charlie Ewels are among the uncapped players chosen
Danny Cipriani has been included in Eddie Jones’ 26-man squad for England’s training camp in Brighton later this month.

Joining the Sale fly-half will be eight uncapped players at the three-day camp from May 17-19, including Northampton’s New Zealand-born flanker Teimana Harrison, Charlie Ewels and Ollie Devoto of Bath, Harlequins’ Kyle Sinckler, Sale pair Tommy Taylor and Mike Haley, London Irish’s Alex Lewington and Newcastle’s Micky Young.

England captain Dylan Hartley is also part of the squad as Jones prepares for a Twickenham clash against Wales on May 29, followed by next month’s three-Test Australia tour.

“The Brighton training camp is a good opportunity for England to get together and train hard ahead of the Wales game and summer tour,” said Jones.

“While we will be without those players involved in the Premiership semi-finals it’s crucial that we spend as much time together as possible.

“We have an important game at Twickenham at the end of the month and then a challenging tour to Australia.

“It’s a challenge that really excites us and we’re looking forward to starting our preparation.

“There’s lots of hard work to be done if we are going to play with the intensity needed to beat southern hemisphere teams.

Those involved in the Premiership final on Saturday, 28 May are also unlikely to feature when England host Wales at Twickenham a day later.

Joe Marler is named in the training squad, meaning the Harlequins forward could face Samson Lee for the first time since he was banned for calling the Wales prop “Gypsy boy” in March.

England will then travel to Australia for a three-match Test series in June.
