Australia team to face Argentina – Fly half Tane Edmed to make first Wallabies start

The Wallabies have unveiled their squad to face Argentina at a sold-out Allianz Stadium, with head coach Joe Schmidt making four changes to his starting XV. The headline call sees fly-half Tane Edmed handed his first ever Test start on home soil, replacing Tom Lynagh who has been ruled out with a hamstring strain.

Schmidt has also reshaped the midfield, with Hunter Paisami slotting in at inside centre to partner Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii. Out wide, Corey Toole and Max Jorgensen continue on the wings, with Andrew Kellaway again trusted at fullback.

Up front, veteran prop James Slipper returns to the run-on side for his 149th cap, joining Billy Pollard and Taniela Tupou in the front row. The second-row combination is also refreshed, as Jeremy Williams comes in to partner Tom Hooper, with Nick Frost rested due to a sore back.

Among the replacements, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto is poised for his first Wallabies appearance of 2025. The experienced lock will be joined by Queensland teammate Josh Nasser, while Angus Bell, Zane Nonggorr and Carlo Tizzano provide further forward cover. Tate McDermott, James O’Connor and Filipo Daugunu round out the bench as backline reinforcements.

Schmidt acknowledged the balancing act between injuries and fresh opportunities in his selection. “While managing injuries is always a challenge, we’re excited to have some fresh bodies who have been training hard with the group for a number of weeks and are keen to contribute,” he said.

He also underlined the threat posed by Los Pumas, who pushed Australia to the brink in Townsville last weekend. “Argentina led for the whole game in Townsville until the very end and we’re very aware of the threat they’ll pose on Saturday afternoon. We’ll need to be better than we were last week.”

The Wallabies will be led once again by No.8 Harry Wilson, who captains a side combining youth, experience and a clutch of players eager to prove their worth on home turf.

With Allianz Stadium packed to capacity and both sides desperate to build momentum in The Rugby Championship, Sydney is set for a fierce contest between two evenly matched rivals.
