Bath players face disciplinary after DRINKING at Rec gets out of hand

  • Drunk players ran naked across the pitch
  • A fire extinguisher was let off
  • A skills clinic organised by the club for youngsters was heckled
The Bath Chronicle have reported today that a quarter of Bath Rugby’s squad face an internal disciplinary hearing after a post-training drinking session at the Rec got seriously out of hand.

They revealed that a number of drunk players ran naked across the pitch, a fire extinguisher was let off and a skills clinic organised by the club for youngsters was heckled.

Following their Challenge Cup semi-final defeat, last Tuesday players were told they could enjoy a few beers and pizza, but things soon got out of hand.

In a statement, Bath Rugby said: “Bath Rugby is currently addressing the events at the Recreation Ground last week, which involved a small group of players from the club.

“The appropriate conduct of all players and staff is highly important to the club and disciplinary hearings with those involved will take place in the coming days.

“The matter will be addressed appropriately as part of that process.”

The disciplinary for ten or 11 players, none of who have been named, will take place next Monday and sanctions could include fines or, if any misdemeanours are deemed serious enough, suspension.

On the evening there was a special kicking course for kids being held on the pitch by George Ford and Rhys Priestland, but this was rudely interrupted by hecklers who could be heard by the kid’s parents.

They were not amused after paying £60 for the session.
