Bundee Aki ‘agrees huge contract’ after world player of the year nomination

The IRFU (Irish Rugby Football Union) and Connacht Rugby are thrilled to announce that Bundee Aki has extended his contract, committing to Connacht until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

According to reliable sources from RUCK, Aki’s earnings have experienced a significant boost, rising from approximately £200,000 to a range of £350,000 to £400,000 per season.

Aki originally joined Connacht in 2014 after spending two years with the Chiefs in New Zealand, where he secured a Super Rugby championship. His arrival had an immediate and positive impact on the province, contributing to their PRO12 victory in 2016.

Making his international debut against South Africa in 2017, Aki has since become a crucial fixture in the Ireland squad, earning his latest cap during the Rugby World Cup 2023. Over the course of 52 appearances for Ireland, he has notched an impressive tally of 15 tries.

In 2021, Aki achieved the distinction of being the fourth Connacht player to represent the British & Irish Lions. In total, he has proudly worn the Connacht jersey on 127 occasions.

Commenting on the announcement, Bundee Aki said: “Playing in Ireland means the world to me and I am delighted to sign a contract extension with the IRFU and Connacht.

Since moving to Galway nine years ago, Ireland has become a home from home and I am incredibly grateful to my coaches, teammates and supporters for making my family and I so welcome here. We’ve made great friends and incredible memories together and I am excited about the talent that is coming through across the country.

I believe that there are more great days to come in the green of Connacht and Ireland and I am hugely excited about what the future holds.”

#5. Owen Farrell (Saracens)

The England captain inked an agreement to remain with Saracens in 2020, securing his tenure until at least the 2023 World Cup. Speculation had arisen earlier this year regarding a substantial new contract that could potentially reach approximately £820,000, though these reports lacked confirmation. It had been disclosed previously that he had deferred 90% of his salary to assist the club in managing the financial challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
