Chris Ashton reveals future with contract expiring next month

Former England winger Chris Ashton is keen to play on whether Leicester Tigers offer him an extended contract or not.

The 35-year-old cross-code convert, who joined his SIXTH Gallagher Premiership club on a ‘short-term deal’, was put on the spot about his future by Danny Care on BBC 5Live’s Rugby Union Weekly podcast.

“Good question, there’s a little bit to run yet. I am going to try and see, I’d love to stay. I am enjoying it. It’s just an environment that suits me,” revealed Ashton.

“I thought that could’ve been it, that could’ve been me,” he revealed following his turbulent Worcester exit.

“Why would you want me? Why would you? That’s how it looked. I am just grateful to be back playing, the tries are a bonus. I am hoping it can just carry on now.

“Everyone knows what their job is and you go and do it, if you don’t you know you are accountable for it. There’s a good squad and a good team at the minute, if you don’t do it, you won’t play, it’s as simple as that. The team wants to win, they are winning, they’ve won all season and that’s the way they are.

“I find it easy to get my head around, you want me to do that? I can do that. It’s what I’ve been doing for years.

“This is the environment I want where everyone is pushing all the time, everyone is training hard and wants to get better every day. I’m like, I can deal with this, this is more like what I am used to.”
