Harlequins’ Chris Robshaw has enjoyed some of the greatest moments of his career at Twickenham, but the flanker insists every time he runs out onto the hallowed turf, it is as special as the first.

The 30-year-old has represented his country 27 times at rugby HQ – 25 of those as captain – and also led Quins to their first-ever Aviva Premiership Rugby Title there in 2012.

If lifting the gleaming trophy for his home club on that occasion wasn’t enough, Robshaw has also featured in eight London Double Headers – winning six and drawing one.

And Robshaw, who is also celebrating a testimonial year with Harlequins in what will be his 11th season at the club, admits pulling on the Harlequins’ jersey on the biggest stage in English rugby still gets his pulse racing.

“Whenever you play at Twickenham it’s always really special,” said Robshaw.

“We come to the Stoop, do all of our necessary preparations and have our meal together before walking over to Twickenham as a team, watching all of the fans enjoying themselves in the sun and having a great time. That’s what rugby is all about.

“We’ve never really been aware of how good our London Double Header record has been, but we love playing at Twickenham. The fans love going there too.

“To be able to see all those Quins’ shirts is actually quite emotional; you see how much it means to people, and for us to be able to walk out at the London Double Header again is going to be a special occasion.

“It will be an extremely tough game but we’ve got to hit the ground running if we want to do well this year.

“It’s a great day out, people really make the most of it. It’s a great way to celebrate all of the things that make club rugby what it is, and a wonderful way to get the season underway.”

Even before he got to experience the unique Twickenham roar as a player, Robshaw was no stranger to the full fan experience himself.

And he is urging all Harlequins’ supporters to come along to this year’s event and support the side as fiercely as they have in recent years, to get them off to the perfect start to this Aviva Premiership Rugby Season.

He added: “It’s a fantastic feeling. For my 18th birthday my mum got me four tickets to England against South Africa, and there’s no equivalent to Twickenham, it’s unmatchable.

“Being part of that environment is huge, and at Harlequins we’re very lucky to play there more than most teams and it’s a fantastic feeling!

“When you’re out there on the pitch with guys you grew up playing with, wearing the Quins’ badge on your chest, it’s hard to describe exactly what that means.”

Start the Aviva Premiership Rugby Season in style with two games from £25 at Twickenham. Harlequins v Bristol Rugby and Saracens v Worcester Warriors in the London Double Header, 3 September. Tickets available from ticketmaster.co.uk
