Christian Wade rips into Chris Ashton’s record ahead of Premiership return

Christian Wade, a former Wasps player turned Racing 92 recruit for the Top 14 league and soon to join Gloucester, has stirred the rugby community by questioning the magnitude of Chris Ashton’s milestone of 100 Premiership tries.

In an exclusive interview with The Rugby Paper, the 31-year-old asserted that had he been part of the same squads as Ashton, he would have shattered the record much sooner.

He stated, “If I played in the teams Ashton played in, I would’ve had the number one record for most Premiership tries five, six years ago.”

Ashton scored a hat-trick for Leicester Tigers in his final season, becoming the first player to reach the milestone of 100 tries in the Premiership.

Wade’s claims have sparked a debate about the significance of individual achievements versus team performance in rugby.

It is unclear whether his comments hold any merit, but they have certainly garnered attention and sparked discussion within the rugby community.
