Dan Lydiate ruled out for the season

Wales and Ospreys flanker Dan Lydiate has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage in Wales’ final November fixture against South Africa.

“It’s not great, there’s definitely some ligament damage,” Ospreys head coach Steve Tandy told BBC Wales Sport.

“It will be a bit more than a couple of months.”

Following consultation it has been confirmed that surgery is required, as a result of which he will not play again until next season.

Lydiate is therefore expected to miss the British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand next year. The 28-year-old appeared in all three Tests in Australia back in 2013, starting twice.
