England coach Eddie Jones admits ‘there are things rugby can learn from football’

England rugby union coach Eddie Jones swapped the oval ball for a spherical one on Tuesday as he paid a visit to Newcastle United’s academy. 

Jones spoke to youngsters at the north-east club about how to succeed in a professional sporting career, as well as to coaches and staff at the club.

He told the Newcastle club website: ‘We can always learn something, it’s a great opportunity for me to learn something too today. There are things we can learn from in football, and possibly vice versa.

‘The thing that really impresses me about football, which hasn’t really happened in rugby so much, is that the players are individually highly skilled.

‘Rugby has improved a lot – having only been professional for 20 years – but the skill level has not improved so much and that is something which really interests me.’
