England head coach gives his opinion on Sam Simmonds

England head coach Eddie Jones praised Sam Simmonds’ performance against Samoa on Saturday – but says he needs to cut Cornish pasties from his diet.

The Exeter Chiefs number eight made his first international start during England’s comfortable 48-14 win at Twickenham, with Chiefs teammates Henry Slade and Harry Williams also featuring.

“Simmonds did pretty well, he’s a good young rugby player, we just need to get some beef on him now,” he said.

“We might have to send him down to Miyazaki in Japan to get him to eat some Miyazaki beef.

“Those Cornish pasties are clearly not working. He has a nice feel to the game, he doesn’t talk a lot and gets on with it. He’s a good prospect for us.”
