England and Wasps star suffers fresh injury concern in training

England and British Lion ace Elliot Daly is ‘weeks ahead of schedule’ on his recovery from an ankle complaint according to Wasps boss Dai Young.

However, he hasn’t joined up with Eddie Jones’ England squad due to a fresh injury concern he picked up in training.

“He came through training but he’s picked up a bit of a groin strain now,” said Young.

“So that’s why he hasn’t gone with England,

“It’s unlikely that he is going to figure this week really. That’s what tends to happen when lads come back from one injury, they pick up a little bit of a strain.

“He’s weeks ahead of schedule anyway, he’s probably got to take a little bit of a step back for a week or so to make sure that calf is right, but he’s at least another week away.”

The versatile suffered his initial injury against La Rochelle in December, which was an all-around bad day for Wasps Nathan Hughes and Jimmy Gopperth also hobbled off.

The latter duo made successful comebacks at Harlequins last week as replacements with the number eight receiving an immediate England recall while Gopperth exploded back onto the scene with seven tackles to help deny Quins a bonus point in the final 20 minutes.

Hughes is now in line to make an immediate return to England’s XV after Sam Simmonds was ruled out of the clash with Scotland at Murrayfield next weekend.
