Ex-Gloucester boss would ‘love another crack’ at the job

Gloucester Rugby have a shortlist of potential candidates drawn up to replace Johan Ackermann as head coach.

The South African has left the club and will link up with Japanese side, NTT Docoma Red Hurricanes, in July.

One man who’d love to take the job would be former boss Laurie Fisher, who left the club by mutual consent in 2017.

When asked if he’d consider taking the role by Andy Goode on Twitter, he responded: “Made some mistakes, learned some lessons, would love to give it another crack,”

The former Brumbies coach Fisher first joined the Cherry and Whites in 2014.

Here are four possible replacements for the South African:

1. Stuart Lancaster

Following England’s Rugby World Cup failure in 2015, Lancaster has begun to re-establish himself as a top coach since joining Leinster.

There is no need for him to leave the Irish, where he is having a very enjoyable and successful stint, but increased responsibility at one of English rugby’s biggest clubs?

If Gloucester are willing to meet the compensation requirement to buy him out of his current contract, it must be a tempting proposition.
