Exeter Chiefs vs Wasps player ratings | Gallagher Premiership final

Exeter Chiefs held out to complete a memorable Champions Cup and Gallagher Premiership double by overcoming Wasps 16-10 in a brutal contest at Twickenham.

Henry Slade and Jacob Umaga exchanged tries in the first half, with Joe Simmonds outscoring Jimmy Gopperth from the tee; giving Chiefs a slender 13-10 lead at the break.

Gopperth and Simmonds exchanged penalties after the restart, making it 16-13 to set up a grandstand finish for the final 10 minutes.

However, despite Wasps best efforts, Exeter’s brick-wall defence stood firm and Simmonds secured Rob Baxter’s men a second Premiership title with another late penalty.

RUCK’s Man of the Match: Joe Simmonds (Exeter Chiefs)

The 23-year-old hasn’t missed a kick since August, and it was his accurate boot that ultimately secured the win. Became the youngest ever captain to lift the Premiership trophy.

Star players:

Jack Willis (Wasps) – This boy is the future. Won a crucial turnover on his own line in the second-half and made an impressive eight tackles, missing none. 44 turnovers this season. Hell of a stat!

He simply must be called up by Eddie Jones.

Henry Slade (Exeter Chiefs) – The centre ripped the Wasps defence to shreds to score the opening try of the game. That’s three tries in the last two Premiership finals.

Jacob Umaga (Wasps) – He’s had an absolutely brilliant season and was once again impressive in the final. Scored an equally good try to Slade. Will likely join up with England tomorrow.
