Former England boss Eddie Jones could return for 2024 Six Nations

Former England head coach Eddie Jones may be set to provide advisory support to one of his former teams’ Six Nations rivals in the upcoming 2024 edition of the tournament.

Gonzalo Quesada is poised to assume the role of head coach for Italy, taking the helm from the current coach, Kieran Crowley, following a lackluster performance by the Italian team in the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

This transition in leadership will officially take place on January 1, 2024, with the Guinness Six Nations serving as Quesada’s inaugural competition at the Italian team’s helm.

Quesada, who most recently led Stade Français to the play-offs in the French Top 14, boasts a distinguished coaching career. He previously managed the Jaguares in his homeland of Argentina, guiding them to the Super Rugby final. Additionally, he secured the Top 14 title during his first tenure with Stade.

Insider reports from RUCK suggest that Eddie Jones could collaborate with Quesada in an advisory capacity, akin to his role at Suntory in Japan, where he has provided guidance for the past seven years.

After the 2024 Six Nations, reports still suggest Jones is poised to link up once again with Japan, who he led to their most famous win against South Africa in 2015.

Jones told Kyodo News he would keen on taking on the job.

“I’ve had no offer, let’s be clear,’ he said after arriving in Tokyo for a holiday with his Japanese wife Hiroko.

“Japan can’t stay where they are because they’ll actually start to slide.

“They’ve got to make a big push now. You’re going to have to be courageous and you’re going to have to do things differently. You can’t just go along and do what you’re doing now.

“So, that’s the reason I would be interested.’
