Gloucester No.8 Will Trenholm has signed a new contract with the club after making a strong impression during his first season at Kingsholm.
RUCK understands that an agreement has been reached to keep Trenholm at Gloucester, with his previous deal due to expire next year.
While the exact length of the new contract has not been confirmed, it is believed to run until 2029.
Trenholm joined Gloucester from Harlequins last summer, bringing an end to his long association with the London club.
The 25-year-old had been with Quins since the age of 13 and went on to make 17 senior appearances, making his debut against London Irish in 2022.
A former England U18 international, he also gained valuable experience away from The Stoop after spending time on loan with RFU Championship side London Scottish.
At 190cm and 112kg, Trenholm offers plenty of physicality while also bringing mobility and dynamism to the back row.
His experience also extends to the World Sevens Series, where he represented England at five tournaments before going on to play for Great Britain at two more.
Talking to RUCK this week, the back row credits his time there with elevating his performances in the XV’s game.
“Sevens for GB and England was an amazing experience, I was a lot lighter but it really helped my skill set, you’re under a microscope in sevens and any mistake will be caught on by a much faster player, so it’s that one on one tackling and that ability to just catch pass.”
Ahead of his move to Gloucester last year, Trenholm highlighted the club's playing style and passionate supporters as key factors behind his decision.
“Having been at Harlequins for so long, it’s a big change for me, but I’m looking forward to heading to Kingsholm this summer.
“Seeing what Gloucester are building and the exciting rugby they’re playing, I’m buzzing to be a part of it and can’t wait to get to work.
“Everyone knows about The Shed and the famous Kingsholm atmosphere, and it’ll be a privilege to get out there in front of them.”
Trenholm featured 19 times for Gloucester last season and quickly established himself as a regular option at No.8, starting seven of the club's final nine matches.
He was particularly impressive during that run, including a two-try performance against Exeter Chiefs.
With Jac Morgan now joining him in the Gloucester back row, the Cherry and Whites have secured the services of another important member of their squad for the years ahead.
