Harlequins Confirm Latest Player Departure as Scottish Scrum Half Heads Home

Harlequins have today confirmed the departure of scrum-half Scott Steele, as the Scotsman returns home at the end of the season. Steele has agreed a move north of the border to Edinburgh in the United Rugby Championship, and is the latest Quin to announce their departure from the Twickenham Stoop.

Joe Marchant, Josh Bassett, and Tommaso Allan will also be leaving Harlequins in the Summer. Allan is set to join French side Perpignan in the Top 14, and Bassett heads to Leicester Tigers after his short stint in the Quins’ quarters, after joining following Wasps’ dissolvement earlier this season.

Marchant ends his decade long tenure with Harlequins, and back-three player Aaron Morris yesterday announced his retirement following an unfortunate series of consecutive injuries. Steele spoke to Harlequins about his exit, and how it will be tough to move on from the Stoop.

“During the three years that I’ve played for Harlequins, I’ve made some amazing memories and met friends for life. As well as being involved in the Premiership winning team, Quins played a big part in fulfilling my dream to represent Scotland.

“I wish Harlequins all the best for next season and would like to extend a special thank you to the Physios and Strength & Conditioning staff for getting me back on the field after my injuries. I’m now looking forward to heading back to Scotland for a new challenge, particularly after spending 12 years playing in England”.

Harlequins Attack Coach Nick Evans said: “We wish Steelie all the best for his next adventure and thank him for his time in the Quarters. The passion and commitment he brings to the game is what sets him apart and the impact both on and off the pitch shows the quality person he is. We have three big games left this season and look forward to him helping in our final push”.
