Joe Marchant confirms Harlequins exit, moving to France with Alan Shearer’s daughter

Top 14 side Stade Francais have confirmed the signing of Harlequins centre Joe Marchant.

Marchant will depart the Club following nine years at The Stoop, after joining the Senior Academy set-up in 2014 and making his senior debut the following year.

The 26-year-old back soon became a regular feature within the starting XV, earning over 130 appearances in the Famous Quarters to date and being an integral part of the 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership winning side.

Marchant went on to achieve international recognition with England as well as working with Harlequins to develop a short-term loan spell with Super Rugby outfit the Auckland Blues in 2020 to develop his experience and skills.

Commenting on his departure at the end of the season, Marchant said: “I am very proud and grateful to have been part of Harlequins for the last 10 years. I’ve made some amazing memories on and off the field and made great friends along the way. This club has been a home to me and will always have a place in my heart.

“The time has come for me to depart the Club and I am excited for my next challenge ahead. I will make the most of every moment for the rest of this season proudly wearing my Quins shirt.

“Thank you for all the support!”

Hollie Shearer, daughter of Premier League top goalscorer and England legend Alan, has confirmed she is dating Marchant.

She is one of Alan’s three children with wife Lainya, who he met early on in his illustrious career, while playing for Southampton.

The 25-year old singer has shared numerous shots with the popular speedster, who has represented his country four times.

Photos shared across social media suggest Hollie’s relationship with the 26-year-old is still in its early stages

The pair first appeared on one another’s Instagram accounts during a trip to the United Arab Emirates with friends in March.

While her dad made his name on the football pitch, and is now a sought after pundit, Hollie’s passion is singing, if you’ve ever watched any of her Instagram or YouTube videos, you’ll know she’s rather good at it.

Not many players have figured in every back-line position and also at hooker and open side flanker but Marchant has done just that.

After a loan spell at London Scottish Joe has now become a regular in the Harlequins starting. He played a starring role at the 2016 World Rugby U20 Championships and managed to score twice in the final against Ireland in Manchester.
