“Joe’s One of a Kind” Danny Care delighted as Joe Marler Signs Harlequins Contract Extension

Earlier today, Harlequins prop Joe Marler signed a contract extension with the club, keeping at the Twickenham Stoop for the forseeable future. Harlequins’ teammate Danny Care has been alongside Marler since arriving from Leeds in 2006, with the duo’s friendship well documented throughout the years.

The 36-year-old is delighted to see the prop extend his time at the Twickenham Stoop, and believes that he has never quite met another player like Joe Marler.

“Yeah, look, Joe’s one of a kind. I don’t think I could do it without him here. He’s a true, true Harlequin. One club man, he’s been here since a little kid. And I think he’s still for me, one of the best players in the world.

“We’re very lucky to have him at Quins. And what he puts his body through but how resilient is, how well he performs for us week in week out, is a testament to him as a person.

Despite not currently involved with Steve Borthwick’s England squad, Danny Care believes that Marler is still more than capeable of wearing the rose. With 83 caps for England, the 32-year-old seems to have taken a recent back seat from the international stage, which Care appreciates in his appearances for Harlequins.

“So obviously, I think there’s still a spot for him in an England shirt. In a selfish way, I’m glad he’s here with us. Because he’s brilliant. He’s the most unique person I think I’ve ever met. Wears his heart on his sleeve, one thing he does is love the club. And yeah, delighted to see him stay at the club for the next couple of seasons.”

The two Harlequins stars have enjoyed their fair share of success in the famous quarters. Both Care and Marler were involved in the three latest pieces of Harlequins silverware, winning the 2011 European Challenge Cup, and also the 2012 and 2021 Premiership titles.

The two have entertained the rugby fanbase with their friendship, which is hilariously presented in the above video from the Harlequins’ archives.
