“Lacked respect” – The two words that cost Joe Marler his England career

Eddie Jones has named a 36-player England squad who will meet for a three-day training camp this weekend.

A number of players are unavailable for selection due to injury, including Alfie Barbeary, Nic Dolly, Alex Dombrandt, Charlie Ewels, George Ford, Sam Jeffries, Maro Itoje, Nick Isiekwe, Courtney Lawes, Sam Underhill and Anthony Watson.

However, a number of stars have been snubbed by the England boss.

#1. Joe Marler (Harlequins)

  • Age: 32
  • Position: Loosehead-prop
  • Caps: 83

Marler has put a future in the media into a higher gear, regularly appearing on celebrity game shows, presenting on Talk Sport and even starring in a new celebrity version of Rui Paul’s Drag Race.

With Sale Sharks powerhouse Bevan Rodd labelled the future, Jones seems comfortable moving forward with Ellis Genge and Mako Vunipola as his experienced loosehead’s moving forward.

Their relationship will have been further strained after Marler declared that Jones decision to replace 80-cap Danny Care after just 36 minutes ‘lacked respect’ during the summer.
