The Northampton Saints man was making his debut…
Ipswich-born Lewis Ludlam has long been touted for international honours after a fine career at Youth level, being named as England’s Player of the Tournament at the World Rugby u20s Championship.
He broke into the Saints first team during 2017 and – 43 league appearances later – finally got his senior England call. The 23-year-old flanker started for Eddie Jones’ side and was noticeably emotional during the national anthems pre-match.
What it means 🌹

He received widespread praise for his debut performance…
Not that I’m surprised but that was an outstanding @EnglandRugby debut for @LewisLudlam linespeed and chop tackles a plenty. #lowchop @piers_francis quality too, hoping the swed is ok. And standard from @Courtney_Lawes #dominant Biggs and @George_North looking strong 💪

@LewisLudlam absolutely outstanding debut, what a Saintsman, even carrying on with what looked like a nasty stinger to get back and help the tryline defence, absolutely awesome! COYS 💚🖤💛

Well done @LewisLudlam on a super performance in your first game for England. I’m pretty sure that Lewis is the first player from the @ColchesterRFC youth section to gain a senior England XV a side cap.

Lewis Ludlam wasn’t a starter for Saints at the beginning of the season. Off season with England and straight in to start. That’s some debut all things considered.

@LewisLudlam well played that man. Great shift put in Lewis and what passion shown during the anthem just how it should be playing for your country. Done yourself, everyone and the Saints proud. 🤞🏻you make the squad. 🌹💛🖤💚🌹 pic.twitter.com/kQu7AHVusi
