Lions star to become the Premiership’s first £1m player after 2019

Maro Itoje will reportedly become the Aviva Premiership’s first million pounds a season player after another stellar campaign for Saracens, England and the Lions.

The 22-year-old is under contract with the reigning European champions until 2019 after signing a new long term deal at the end of last season.

The Rugby Paper reported that one Premiership club has already failed with an offer of £850,000 a season to lure him away from Saracens.

But that is someway short of what Saracens will have to splash out to keep Itoje when his contract next comes up for negotiation.

The Lions second row is represented by the Stellar Group who also guide the career of Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale. They WILL ask for a seven figure wage.

Relegated Bristol, who have already added Ireland international Ian Madigan and All Black Steve Luatua, have also reportedly shown interest as they continue to spend big.

The second-row is likely to become only the third player in rugby history after All Black legend Dan Carter and Ayumu Goromaru to earn £1 million a season.

Is he worth it?!
