Lions turn off social media accounts

British & Irish Lions winger George North has revealed that quite a few players have turned off their social media accounts due to fears of potential abuse they could receive.

He admitted he might ‘log out’ of social media after Saturday.

“You definitely hear it. You can just log out, or log in. A lot of the boys are wise to it now,” he told the Telegraph.

“It’s a good platform for fans but it’s also a bad platform for fans. At the moment, I’m logged in. After Saturday, we’ll see.”

North said the potential abuse was perceptive and players should focus on ‘more important things’ with the Lions series in full swing.

“It’s like anything, it’s what you read and how you read it,” he added.

“It’s great to get all the support from the fans and messages, but it’s not just me, it’s the whole squad that are here to do a job and sometimes you have to switch on to that.”
