With just a few weeks to go until the 2020 Six Nations kicks off, we take a look at 10 facts you probably didn’t know about the tournament…
1. Sharing is caring
Prior to 1994, teams equal on match points shared the championship. 1973 was the only year in which there was a five-way tie, with each side winning two matches and losing two.
2. Trophy trouble
The inside of the trophy used between 1993 and 2015 was silver but was recently replaced with 22 carat gold due to the repeated erosion from the Champagne. They even added a lip around the rim to aid drinking from it!
3. New trophy
A new trophy was introduced for the 2015 Championship.[8] The new trophy was designed and crafted by Thomas Lyte silversmiths
4. Try machine
The record for tries in a match is held by Scotsman George Lindsay who scored five tries against Wales in 1887
