“No More Twickenham 7s” World Sevens Series Given Re-Brand as ‘HSBC SVNS’ for 2023/24

The World Sevens Series has undergone a re-brand, ahead of the 2023/24 season. The competition will be known by the new name of ‘HSBC SVNS’, with the upcoming season’s dates and locations revealed today.

World Rugby’s statement confirms that HSBC will remain the naming sponsors for the explosive seven-a-side competition, which is set to bring the festival vibes from December 2023 to June 2024. So far, eight locations from across the world have been named for the 2023/24 series.

Dubai, Cape Town, Perth, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Singapore and Madrid have been confirmed as the eight cities that are set to host the upcoming men’s and women’s competition. This sees London removed as a host location, with the famous party atmosphere of the Twickenham Sevens set to be missed out this time around.

The Confirmed Dates for the 2023/24 HSBC SVNS

Dubai, UAE – 2-3 December, 2023
Cape Town, South Africa – 9-10 December, 2023
Perth, Australia – 26-28 January, 2024
Vancouver, Canada – 23-25 February, 2024
Los Angeles, USA – 2-3 March, 2024
Hong Kong SAR, China – 5-7 April 2024
Singapore, Singapore – 3-5 May 2024
Madrid, Spain – 31 May-2 June, 2024

New Structural Format

SVNS will also introduce changes to the structural format of the competition, with the 16 teams dropping down to just 12. This reflects Sevens Rugby on the Olympic circuit, as the fast-flowing format increases it’s global reach. After seven rounds of regular competition, the top eight placed teams will battle it out in Madrid, in the ‘winner takes all’ Grand Final day.

The teams that were ranked 9th, 10, 11th and 12th, will battle against the top four sides from the 2023/24 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, in a promotion-relegation play off series. Once this is all decided in Madrid, the top four teams from this group of eight, will earn their spot in the SVNS league, for the 2024/25 season.
