The one thing no Bristol fan wanted to happen did, star summer signing Charles Piutau came on at halftime and left again 10 minutes later with his arm in a makeshift sling.
“He is getting assessed on his shoulder. Of course it is a concern but that is the nature of the game,” said head coach Pat Lam.
“The medical team will go through that and get the scans and then we will go from there.”
Asked how big a blow it would be to not have Piutau fit heading into the opening game of the Gallagher Premiership against Bath, Lam said:
“It is obvious, but that is rugby. I am confident if he is there good, but if not then the next guy steps in, that’s the only way you win things by making sure you have someone to step in.
“I always say it is not the individual it is the team, people will have to step up.”
