According to an article in The Sunday Times, there is speculation that Mike Catt might resign from his position as Ireland’s attack coach.
Catt, a former English international, has contributed significantly to Ireland’s attacking strategies over the past four years, garnering considerable acclaim over the last two.
The report suggests that Catt may continue in his role until the conclusion of the 2024 Six Nations, allowing Andy Farrell and the IRFU sufficient time to identify and integrate a new attack coach.
As news surfaces regarding Catt’s potential departure from the Irish coaching setup, there is speculation that Johnny Sexton could be considered as a replacement for the position of backs coach.
However, it’s worth noting that Sexton has previously expressed reservations about transitioning into a coaching role.
Sexton said: “I would never say never, you never know what life is going to throw at you.
“It wouldn’t be my plan straight away, if an offer came in, it wouldn’t be right for me to coach with guys I played with the last number of years.
“I certainly wouldn’t want to jeopardise this year, because if they find out you’re coaching them, the relationship changes straight away. I won’t be doing it for the foreseeable future.
“Rugby is my passion, it’s all I’ve known. I’ve been doing it for 20 years, longer maybe, when I was a kid. But I think it’s important to step away from it to try another walk of life. And then we’ll see what happens.”
