Premiership working on plans to finish season with ‘TV mega event’

Premiership Rugby are considering staging a summer play-off series as a genuine solution to finishing the season is needed if the campaign can’t be resumed, according to the Mail Online.

The idea has gained momentum as Premiership Rugby are fearful the 2019/20 season could still yet be completely scrapped.

Much of the focus has been on seeking to stage additional marquee events to make up for the cash shortfall caused by the suspension of the league.

Therefore, they are considering staging a summer play-off series to determine this season’s champions, which would be broadcasted by BT Sport

One idea shared with the Mail Online is for two big events on successive weekends at a neutral venue such as Twickenham or Wembley — a semi-final double-header followed by the final the following week.
