Red Rose star tweets as she begins life as a non-pro rugby player

Contracts for England women’s XVs expired today after the Rugby Football Union decided they would not renew them after the Rugby World Cup despite the Red Roses finishing as runners up.

The RFU says its focus will switch to the sevens game after the tournament, which starts in Ireland next month.

QUIZZES:

England’s retired World Cup winner Maggie Alphonsi said the news was “very disappointing”.

Tamarra Taylor took to twitter today, showing her disappointment.

It is understood several current squad members will move to a sevens contract.

New XVs contracts will then be awarded in preparation for the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
