Harlequins have confirmed an exciting exhibition fixture for next February, as they are set to host Munster during a break weekend in the Gallagher Premiership. The United Rugby Championship’s current holders head to the Stoop, for their first meeting in London since the 2012/13 Champions Cup.
The match has been scheduled during the Gallagher Premiership’s break during the Guinness Six Nations, with no league matches taking place. Harlequins and Munster will use the match to maintain vital fitness levels throughout their squad, and prepare their sides for the end of season run-ins.
The match is set to take place under Harlequins’ famous Friday night lights, and will generate quite the atmosphere for both sets of fans.
Harlequins CEO Laurie Dalrymple commented in a statement: “We’re delighted to announce this blockbuster match against Munster in February. There’s always something very special about Friday nights at The Stoop and we’re looking forward to facing a strong Munster outfit and welcoming their passionate and vocal supporters to London.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity to welcome another club partnering with our Principal Partner DHL to The Stoop and we’re looking forward to working with DHL and Munster to bring to life some exciting matchday plans. Being a Friday night supporters can expect plenty of pre-match entertainment, with a spectacular lights and pyro display, alongside an unmissable game of rugby.”
The match will be the first time Quins have hosted Munster at The Stoop since the 2012/13 Champions Cup Quarter-Final. On that day Munster came back from 9-6 at half-time to secure a thrilling 12-18 win in front of a sold-out Stoop crowd.
