REPORT: Eddie Jones confirms call-up for Alun Wyn Jones

Alun Wyn Jones is set to join Eddie Jones’ Barbarians squad, as the invitational side takes on a decorated World XV at Twickenham Stadium.

The fixture takes place on the 28th of May, the day after the 2023 Gallagher Premiership Final.

The most-capped International player is set to wear the famous black and white stripes of the Barbarians, and join an already star-studded line-up.

The 37-year-old will make his Barbarians debut, and line-up alongside Wales compatriot Rhys Webb.

Eddie Jones took on the Barbarians, in his final months as England Head Coach. Last year, England lost 21-52 to a decorated Barbarians squad.

Alun Wyn Jones has had the Baa-Baas as a career goal in 2018.

“I’d love to feature for the Barbarians. I’d love to win a Champions Cup, and I’d love to get another World Cup and make a fist of it.”

The veteran Welsh lock will join up with already confirmed England stars Danny Care and Joe Marler, as the Harlequins duo re-unite with Eddie Jones. Bristol partners Semi Radradra and Charles Piutau also join the Barbarians, along with a group of fellow Southern Hemisphere players.

Australia’s Marika Koroibete and Nick Phipps, Argentina’s Pablo Matera and Emiliano Boffelli, and Japan’s captain Michael Leitch also join the fray. Rugby World Cup winning Head Coach Steve Hansen will take the reigns for the World XV.
