4 Lions stars who did their test hopes no favours against the Sharks

There were plenty of standout stars for the tourists – but these four players did their chances of earning a test jersey no favours.

Rugby Pass: His normally super accurate kicking radar seemed scrambled and awful pass let Sharks just before halftime. Four missed tackles to his name will irk a normally solid defender. 

Telegraph: A couple of missed conversions may count against him.

JOE: Mostly good from Biggar, but a few errors sprinkled into his performance that he will need to cut out if he's to be the starting 10.

Pundit Arena: The Exeter Chiefs lock just didn’t get through much work at Loftus Versfield, and doesn’t look like getting anywhere near the Lions’ match-day squad for the first test against the Springboks.

Rugby Pass: A solid outing for the big lock, who had a massive task on his hands dealing the likes of the 6’8, 138kg Le Roux Roets. Solid.

Telegraph: Seems to be fading from the Test equation, missing three of his four tackles. Pretty far behind Maro Itoje and Iain Henderson at this point.

Pundit Arena: Threw a bad pass which was intercepted by Jaden Hendrikse who ran untouched to score a try. The Welshman made a number of poor decisions aside from that in a performance that harmed his test chances.

Rugby Pass: Not a great day at the office for Davies, whose distribution was a mixed bag, showed poor discipline and threw an intercept. A game to forget for the Welshman who might now be Gatland’s third choice at nine.

Telegraph: Threw one ugly intercept and struggled to provide the rhythm to an attack that Ali Price has managed in the previous two matches.

JOE: Did not convince that he should be the Test No.9. Had a box-kick charged down, early on, and was turned over in his 22 before Abrahams' try. Then gift-wrapped a try to Hendrikse with a telegraphed, looping pass that was intercepted.

Pundit Arena: He dropped a ball under no pressure which led to an early breakaway try for the Sharks, but Daly did look dangerous when given a bit of space in attack.

Rugby Pass: Getting obliterated by Werner Kok wasn’t the ideal start and that was followed by an awkward fumble then led directly to the Sharks’ first try.

JOE: Recovered from an absolute horror show pass that led to the Sharks' try, for Volmik. Seemed to be juggling the ball on a few occasions out there. When he got hold of it, he prospered - making 69 metres off six carries. However, missed three of his seven tackles. Local broadcasters gave him Man of the Match, so maybe they saw more from him than we did.
