Argentina powerhouse Tomás Lavanini is on his way to the Gallagher Prem

Currently based in New Zealand, the Argentina international will not be staying in the Southern Hemisphere for long. Instead, he has opted for a move to England, where he will continue his career with Sale.

Now 33, Lavanini brings vast experience to the table, having earned 86 caps for Argentina. At 2.01 metres tall and weighing 127 kilograms, the imposing second-row is renowned for the physical presence and power he adds to any pack.

A return to England represents familiar territory. Between 2019 and 2021, he featured for Leicester Tigers, making his debut off the bench against Gloucester on 2 November 2019. Over two seasons, he made 38 appearances and scored two tries. His previous spell in the Premiership means he is already well accustomed to the league’s demands.

Lavanini’s recent career path has not been straightforward. After a difficult campaign at Lyon, where he managed just 11 appearances, he moved to New Zealand last autumn in search of a fresh start. However, he has yet to feature for the Highlanders this year.

The switch to Sale Sharks now offers a renewed opportunity. With strong ambitions for the upcoming season, the English club is looking to benefit from Lavanini’s experience and presence. For the Argentine lock, the move provides a chance to secure regular game time and reaffirm his impact at the highest level.
