Bath player ratings vs Leicester as Johann van Graan's men triumphed in the Gallagher Premiership final at the Allianz Stadium.

Bath won the Gallagher Premiership at Allianz Stadium after holding off a late maul from the Leicester Tigers, becoming treble winners in this season.

Leicester drew first blood after Jack Van Poortvliet came off the side of a driving maul to dot it down on the line. However, after Finn Russell took three points from the tee to get Bath off the mark, they took the lead: finishing off some strong phase play through the hands of Thomas du Toit. Julian Montoya spent the rest of the first half in the sin bin, after a high shot on Ted Hill was deemed a yellow-card offence. Russell extended Bath’s lead just on the stroke of half-time, knocking a penalty kick over the bar from just over the halfway line.

Handre Pollard hooked a penalty kick to the right in an attempt to get Leicester on the right foot, starting the second half. Russell intercepted from Bath’s own ten-metre line, running it all the way up to the Leicester five-metre line, before giving it to Max Ojomoh to run it in and extend their lead. Guy Pepper’s twinkletoe try was ruled out after a knock-on in the build up was spotted by the TMO, after the missed conversion was taken. Leicester were looking to mount a comeback, as Solomane Kata pushed the ball just underneath the posts. However, they would go down to 14 men, for what looked like the rest of the game, as Dan Cole’s swansong ended in a yellow card for a late charge on Finn Russell, who slotted the following penalty.

Leicester grabbed another try through Emeka Ilione to make it a two-point game going into the final five minutes, but it wasn’t to be, as Bath held on to win their first Premiership title since 1996, becoming the sixth different winner of the league in the last six years.

One of the standout performers both with ball in hand and in the air winning numerous duels against the Leicester Tigers back line. His direct running and offloading strength created opportunities that should’ve been taken by his accompanying teammates.

An unusually mistake-filled game from the winger, getting himself into the right positions but unable to hold the ball. His direct carries were very effective when attempting to break the Leicester Tigers defensive line.

Another player that at points had a quiet game, his power and speed have been a massive part of how dynamic this Bath side have been this year. Although he was very much on hand to finish off a beautiful 49th-minute breakaway score under the posts.

You could tell that the inside centre struggled at times to really get a foothold. With Ojomoh next to him there was no real need to take control. His composure in the backfield was able to slow the game down enough to see the game out.

Comfortable under the high ball as he has been all this season. Didn’t particularly get the opportunities to run in open space. A lot of credit to the Tigers defence for not allowing him the room to maneuver.

Influential from the fly-half who was confident both throwing the ball around and with his long and short-distance kicking. His partnership with Ben Spencer also put the hosts in good stead. His reading of the game was far superior to his opposite number, intercepting and offloading to Max Ojomoh to score.

As mentioned with his half-back partner, Ben Spencer showed his class and experience at the top stage. His speed and awareness to get the ball wide or keep it narrow made clear why those in black, blue and white have been so dangerous going forward. More questions to be asked why he hasn’t been included in Steve Borthwick’s England squad.

Really positive performance for the Bath number one, a completely different outcome to last year's final. His discipline and strength to carry into tackles put Bath in the driving seat at scrum time, winning a number of penalties.

Came off with a bloody face last weekend against Bristol and his efforts were no different this week. He put himself on the line to win the ball and carry hard into tackles.

Another dominant performance from the prop who also bagged himself a try in the 28th minute. His explosive carrying and strength in both the scrum and maul put Bath in the driving seat.

A quiet game for Quinn Roux, but would be part of a strong forward pack.

Controlled and took on his opposite number and came out on top.

Ted Hill’s athleticism put his side's back row in the ascendancy, his sprint speed and versatility allowed the Bath side to use their forward pack to their advantage.

A professional performance from Pepper, dominant in his carrying and in phase play. He scored a beautiful try which would later be disallowed. But he would rightly be man of the match and was the leading light in a title-winning Bath performance.

A reasonably quiet game for the number 8, his speed to the breakdown and his offloading put the Bath team in a position to get forward as well as defend a dangerous Tigers pack.

You have five minutes to name every club to have played in the Gallagher Premiership, all 28 of them, since the division was established back in 1987.

It’s more difficult than it sounds.
