Northampton Saints rugby star Courtney Lawes has been handed a six-month driving ban after pleading guilty to speeding on the M1 motorway.
Court documents revealed that Mr. Lawes was driving a Bentley Bentayga V8 when it was captured by speed cameras traveling at 73mph in a temporary 40mph zone between junctions 15 and 14 southbound at 2 am on June 13, 2023.
Magistrates required Mr. Lawes to attend Wellingborough court on March 8, 2024, where the 35-year-old was instructed to pay a total of £2,422. This sum includes a fine of £1,666 along with a £666 surcharge aimed at supporting victim services.
Additionally, he received six penalty points on his driving record, pushing him beyond the threshold for disqualification under the 'totting up' system. Offenders accumulating 12 points within a three-year timeframe face potential disqualification unless exceptional circumstances are present.
