"Marquee signing" - Courtney Lawes confirms return to the Prem

Courtney Lawes will depart CA Brive at the end of the current campaign, bringing his two-year stint in Corrèze to a close.

The French club confirmed the news in an official statement, revealing that while they had hoped the former England international would finish his career in Brive colours, they fully respect his decision to pursue a fresh challenge back in his homeland.

Brive paid tribute to Lawes’ impact, describing him as “one of the legends of world rugby” and “one of the best back-row forwards of his generation.” Since arriving in France, Lawes has been a key figure both on and off the pitch, offering leadership, experience, and consistency throughout his time with the club.

Despite the upcoming departure, Brive are confident that the 35-year-old will remain fully committed until the end of the season, continuing to give his all for the team in their remaining fixtures.

Club president Thierry Blandinières praised Lawes’ professionalism and influence:

“We are very proud to say that Courtney Lawes will have been Briviste for two seasons. He arrived here with humility and ambition and showed the full extent of his talent since his first day in Brive.

"He gave everything for the club and he will continue to give everything until the end of his adventure in Black and White.”

Lawes himself reflected fondly on his time in France, highlighting both the sporting and personal significance of the move:

“I live an experience in Brive that I will never forget, both athletically and humanly. I will invest myself fully until the end of the season to finish this adventure with the CAB in the best way. We were very well received with my family in Corrèze and we will always have the Briviste heart.”

His next destination in England has not yet been officially confirmed, but his return is expected to draw significant interest across the Premiership.
