Springboks star linked with shock move to French club for 2026

Smith — a double World Cup winner with the Springboks and a proven “bomb-squad” impact player boasts a CV few can match. Currently plying his trade in Japan with the Shizuoka Blue Revs, Smith’s future in South Africa colours remains uncertain. The depth of competition within the national back-row setup and the looming 2027 World Cup may weigh heavily on his decisions. A switch to the Top 14 could offer both a fresh challenge and financial reward, as Smith gears up to be at his very best in time for selection.

There are currently no restrictions in place upon Springboks players plying their club trade outside of South Africa, with Smith more than enabled to enjoy the flexibility whilst remaining firmly apart of the Springboks set-up.
