Rugby player has leg amputated after freak injury

Birkenhead Park Rugby Club player Billy Woof suffered a knee dislocation in the last few minutes of the team’s Playoff victory against Penrith RFC on 29th April.

The club said in a statement: “Sadly due to complications, Billy has had his lower leg amputated at his mid knee on Friday 12th May.

“He is currently recovering well in hospital and is in good spirits.

“Having already started his rehab, Billy is being supported by his family, girlfriend and friends at this time.

“We ask that you please respect the family’s privacy while Billy is in the early stages of recovery.”

“Birkenhead Park Rugby Club, and I’m sure the entire extended rugby community, will do whatever we can to help Billy with his rehabilitation and his future wellbeing.”
