Since arriving from Newcastle Falcons, the summer signing has been in great form but suffered an injury in last week’s Champions Cup encounter with Racing 92.

“Kieran had a knee op on Thursday. It’s a big blow for us as he’s been playing well all season and will be out for quite a while,” Mallinder said following his side’s shock 25-23 defeat to London Irish on Saturday.

Mallinder did at least have skipper Dylan Hartley back in his starting XV after a seven-week absence following a concussion sustained in the clash with Saracens in early November, lasting 60 minutes before being substituted.
