Scarlets 10-22 Northampton: Saints keep chances of progression alive with bonus-point triumph

  • Northampton claimed a bonus-point win over Scarlets but must wait and see if they have reached the quarter-finals.
  • Saints needed maximum points from their final Pool Three game to stay in with a chance of progressing as one of the best three runners-up
  • And the visitors did it through scores from Harry Mallinder, George Pisi, Sam Dickinson and George North
Wales international wing George North scored against his former club as Northampton Saints strolled to a 22-10 bonus-point victory against the Scarlets in the Champions Cup.

The visitors dominated the first half with two tries, one from George Pisi and a score from Harry Mallinder, son of head coach Jim. Scarlets only score came courtesy of a single Aled Thomas penalty.

It was deja vu for the away side in the second half. Two more tries from Sam Dickinson and North, with the Scarlets grabbing a consolation try through Aled Davies late on.

The win leaves Northampton still in the qualification spots for the quarter finals. However, the West Midlands side will be keeping a close eye on Stade Francais and Clermont, who could still move in to the top eight tomorrow.

Full report to follow.
