Scotland star to Miss Rest of 2023 Six Nations with Red Card Ban

Scotland lock Grant Gilchrist will be forced to sit-out the remainder of the 2023 Guinness Six Nations, as he has recieved a three match ban for his high-tackle on Anthony Jelonch.

Gilchrist was sent-off after just six minutes in Paris, as his leading shoulder made contact with the flanker’s head.

BBC Sport reported how the Edinburgh player’s ban has been reduced from an initial six weeks, as Gilchrist admitted to the mistake, and that there was evidence for a lack of intent. The 32-year-old will be unable to play in Scotland’s final two rounds of the Six Nations, as they line up against Italy and Ireland.

Despite receiving a three match ban, Gilchrist will be available to play in Edinburgh’s match against Connacht on March 25th. The disciplinary panel have accepted Gilchrist’s bid to replace a third match suspension with attending a tackling course, which allows the lock to feature in the United Rugby Championship fixture.

Another suspension from the same match, France prop Mohamed Haouas has received a four match ban for his headbutt on Ben White.

This incident took place just four minutes after Gilchrist’s red card, in a crazy first half. Haouas has become the first player in the Guinness Six Nations to be sent off twice, with his first red card also coming against Scotland, as he punched Jamie Ritchie back in 2020.
