“Second tier” – George North set for shock move away from Wales

Wales and Ospreys centre George North has been linked with a move to Provence Rugby, who compete in the French second division. The Pro D2 club are reported to be interested in bringing in the British and Irish Lion, following reports in French rugby outlet Midi Olympique.

RUCK have 4 tickets to give away for the United Rugby Championship fixture between Munster and Leinster on December 26. Enter here.

North is reported to have visited Provence’s facilities in Aix, and is said to have even met with some of the club’s representatives. Should Provence be able to secure the signature of North, Midi Olympique report that Head Coach Mauricio Reggiardo is eager to extend the contract beyond a one-year deal.

North would certainly become one of the most highest profile signings in the Pro D2, and joins the league that former Wales scrum half Rhys Webb now calls home.

Webb made the jump to France ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and joined up with Pro D2 club Biarritz.

This transfer speculation comes amongst a whole host of rumoured departures to France, with RC Toulon reportedly closing in on signing the England international duo of Lewis Ludlam and Kyle Sinckler.

Elsewhere in the transfer market, Saracens’ Elliot Daly and Bath tight-head prop Will Stuart are also linked with moves to France, yet into undisclosed Top 14 clubs.

Nigel Owen’s law changes for 2024:

#1. Less TMO

Owens wrote: “We should aim for good performances that facilitate good games. In my opinion, perfect has become the enemy of the good because people are striving for a standard that is unachievable. A frustrating over-reliance on the TMO is one result of this fear of getting things wrong.

“Pressure is being exerted on referees by spectators, social media users, coaches, players, performance reviewers and referee managers. That is a lot of people scrutinising everything. I think we need to take a step back and make sure we pick up the things that matter.”
