SIGNED: Leicester Tigers sign new scrum-half ahead of Six Nations

Leicester Tigers can confirm the signing of Sam Wolstenholme on a short-term contract.

The scrum-half joins Leicester Tigers after having previously played for Wasps, where he made 30 appearances, who he joined from Yorkshire Carnegie ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Wolstenholme attended Oakham School before furthering his studies at Loughborough University, while still a member of the Yorkshire Academy, and spent time on loan with Hull Ioanins while playing for Carnegie.

Speaking about the addition of Wolstenholme, Interim Leicester Tigers Head Coachย Richard Wigglesworth said:ย “Sam is an exciting addition to our group and we’re confident he will add depth to our scrum-half ranks as well as competition for places, which is a really positive thing.”

“He knows the area and the importance of Tigers to it, after attending school and university locally, and is a young man with a lot of potential and growth in his game.

“Sam also has experience in the Premiership and Europe, which is of great value and we’re looking forward to seeing him commence with the squad.”

Wolstenholme joins Leicester Tigers effective immediately.

Two departures:

Tigers can confirmย Tom Cowan-Dickieย and Gabriel Oghre have departed the club.

Cowan-Dickie, who joined Tigers ahead in September 2021 and agreed a new short-term deal ahead of the current campaign, has made 10 appearances for the club – including six games in the successful 2021/22 Premiership campaign.

Oghre, who made the move to Leicester from Wasps last month, has played three games for Tigers.

Discussing the pair, Interim Leicester Tigers Head Coach Richard Wigglesworth said: “It’s always a pity when you lose good people but we knew this was coming, with both on short-term deals, and wish them well in their next chapters.”

“I was fortunate to have played alongside both during their time here and equally as fortunate to have coached them during that time as well.

“Tom joined us ahead of last year and made an immediate impact, on and off the pitch, with his brilliant character and commitment to his team-mates.

“Gabriel came in under different and difficult circumstances, which you would never have known in the way he went about everything in a professional and hard-working manner.

“On behalf of everybody, I want to say thank you to both of them for what they have given – in different periods – to Leicester Tigers and look forward to seeing what is next for both on and off the field.”

Cowan-Dickie and Oghre’s contracts with Leicester Tigers conclude today – December 31, 2022.
