Sir Clive Woodward has questioned Eddie Jones’ England selection ahead of their Autumn Nations Cup clash at Twickenham on Saturday.
“Quite what Jonathan Joseph is doing out on the wing again, I’m not sure.” wote Woodward.
“He has one position — outside centre — but the Bath man could get plenty of chances to cash in and improve his try-scoring stats today.
“Up front England have brought in the strong-scrummaging Will Stuart, but this is not the Georgian mean machine of a few years ago.
“Jones could have started with Kyle Sinckler and given us one of the most dynamic England front rows ever — Ellis Genge, Jamie George and the Bristol man. That, for me, is England’s best starting front row.
“Selecting Maro Itoje in the back row makes me shake my head. Why move the world’s best lock from his specialist position? You build your team around Maro.
SIR CLIVE WOODWARD XV TO FACE GEORGIA:
11. Joe Cokanasiga, 14. Jonny May, 15. Anthony Watson
“I want to see Anthony Watson as full-back and Jonny May given a license to thrill. Elliot Daly, Joe Cokanasiga and Ollie Thorley can fight it out for the other wing position.”
12. Ollie Lawrence & 13. Henry Slade
“Henry Slade is a world-class 13. Pick him there and find the best 12 to go with him. That might be Ollie Lawrence, Exeter’s Ollie Devoto or Manu Tuilagi if he can overcome his latest injury.”
