STATEMENT: Ange Capuozzo releases statement after undergoing emergency surgery

Italy star Ange Capuozzo was ruled out of the 2024 Six Nations and was forced to fly home for emergency surgery following scans.

In a statement, the Italian stat wrote: “In the first minutes of our beautiful, rough win against Scotland, I injured my finger. Tests carried out since then showed a displaced fracture.

“After trying everything to finish the tournament with the team against Wales I was forced to go home for emergency surgery.

“I wish to thank Dr. Aymeric André and his entire team of @medipolegaronne for their welcome and accompaniment.

“The surgery went very well.

“From now on, I’m looking forward. I’ll be the first Squadra supporter this Saturday afternoon.

“I will also do my best to get back as soon as possible with my @stadetoulousainrugby club to finish out this exciting season.

“Thank you for your support and see you very soon!”

During his tenure at Montpellier, the Springbok fly-half was known as one of the highest-earning players in the sport, purportedly receiving an annual salary exceeding one million.

However, his transfer to Leicester Tigers entailed a reduction in pay, although he is still believed to be earning a respectable sum at Welford Road.
