Statement: Gloucester sign forward on loan with immediate effect

Gloucester Rugby has enlisted the services of Irishman Adam McBurney on a temporary loan, as they grapple with a shortage of experienced hookers.

With just one senior player available in this position, McBurney, aged 27, joins the ranks at Kingsholm from United Rugby Championship side Edinburgh Rugby on a two-week loan deal.

This acquisition comes in the wake of a significant setback for Gloucester, as George McGuigan sustained a hamstring injury in the final moments of last weekend’s Premiership Rugby Cup triumph over Leicester Tigers.

The severity of McGuigan’s injury necessitated surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

McBurney, who has seen limited action this season with only three appearances off the bench for Edinburgh Rugby, will immediately bolster Gloucester’s squad.

He is slated to feature in the matchday 23 set to confront Leicester Tigers at Welford Road on Friday evening, as part of Round 13 of the Gallagher Premiership. Seb Blake will don the number two jersey for the fixture.
