STATEMENT: Sale Sharks respond to ‘headline’ Manu Tuilagi news

It appears that Manu Tuilagi will depart from Sale Sharks, as Alex Sanderson conceded that salary cap limitations are currently preventing them from re-signing the England and Lions centre.

He signed an initial one-year contact when he left Leicester Tigers in June 2020 and has since extended his deal by a further two seasons.

However, according to The Rugby Paper, this will be his last despite retaining his place in the England squad..

Tuilagi, who is set to leave the North West next June when his contract expires, is very keen on a move to Racing 92 following one last crack at the Rugby World Cup with England.

“I have to wait until I am given the green light from the commercial department to give comment on that one,” replied Sanderson, nipping the query in the bud for now.

The centre,, who actually had a tour of their training ground when the previous offer was on the table, was only stopped from joining after crisis talks with England boss Eddie Jones.

However, reports in France suggest former England boss Stuart Lancaster could come back in for the powerhouse with Toulon and Toulouse also interested in the 50-cap centre.
