Wales scrum-half Gareth Davies has announced his retirement from international rugby, bringing an end to a decade-long career with 77 caps for his country.

The 34-year-old, who made his debut in 2014, confirmed his decision on social media, reflecting on his time in the Wales jersey, which included appearances in three Rugby World Cups, a Six Nations title, and a pivotal role in the 2019 Grand Slam.
Davies captained Wales in his final match, a 36-35 win over Queensland Reds in an uncapped fixture. “It was my childhood dream to represent Wales, and I have cherished every moment,” Davies said.
He added: “From my first cap in 2014 to playing in three World Cups and winning a Grand Slam, it has been an incredible journey. I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for their unwavering support.”
Wales head coach Warren Gatland praised Davies’ contribution, noting: “Gareth has been an outstanding servant to Welsh rugby. His tries against England in 2015 and Australia in 2019 and 2023 stand out as key moments in his career. He can be incredibly proud of all he has achieved.”
Davies’ announcement comes ahead of Gatland naming his squad for the autumn internationals.
