Stuart Barnes has responded to Sam Warburton after the former Wales captain called him out on social media.
Warburton told Barnes he had “completely missed the point” after the Sunday Times columnist tore apart Warburton’s suggestions on how the game can protect players at the breakdown following his premature retirement at the age of 29.
the two-time Lions captain has taken to Twitter to defend his suggestions following the criticism from Barnes.
You’ve sadly completely missed the point. 1. Encourages the jackal due to attack committing less players (turnovers essential to the game) ✅ 2. Increases amount of attacking players on their feet ✅ 3. Will emphasise technique and efficiency of 1st arriving cleanout ✅ https://t.co/mcKYUkw3s1

Barnes has now replied to Warburton – appearing to backtrack somewhat from his original stance of the “worst idea” ever.
@samwarburton_1 Sam, It would be foolish not to respect your opinion on the game, especially the breakdown. I agree on the critical need for turnovers and I want to see referees have an easier call at the clean out, You think extra attacking players on their feet will help..

@samwarburton_ 2 I believe more forwards committed to a ruck could open up the extra space required rather than a field strung out with players. Good luck in the future, respectfully,
